I'm unable to properly restore a Dell OptiPlex 7010. Below is a detailed summary of what was done & the result:
I have created two recovery points, one of the Dell Utility partition & as recommended, one of the C:\ (OS) partition including the Dell Recovery partition (not to be confused with the old Dell System Restore that used Ghost for recovery.)
After a hdd failure & subsequent replacement with a new, blank hdd, my attempts at a successful restore fail.
I first restore the Dell Utility partition with the default selection "Restore original disk signature" selected, I don't select "Reboot when finsihed."
Next, I restore using the recovery point containing the OS (C:\), Recovery (*:\) with the default selections of "Restore original disk signature" selected for the OS (C:\) and the default selection "Set drive for active (for booting OS)" & "Restore original disk siganture" selected. "Reboot when finished" is selected.
Upon restart, displayed is a Windows Boot Manger error: Windows failed to start, Status: 0x0000225, Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I have attempted to use the solution where Windows Repair is used after booting to a Win7 install DVD, but then Dell Backup & Recovery can no longer find the partttion.
I also know that the Recovery partition (restore of) can be eliminated altogether and using Windows Repair will correct the problem, but all of these are just workarounds.
Is there anyway to successfuly restore a newer Dell system (Dell Utility partition, Dell Recovery partition, & the OS partition?
