NU15 to 16 update

$

I have NU on three diffierent computers: 15 on two laptops (win8 on one and Vista on the other) and 16 on a desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate. Originally I had installed 15 on all three at the same time and from the same source under the same license. At some time in the past few months the desktop (Win7) NU updated itself to 16 - which I like better - but the other two remained 15. How did this happen and how can I get the 15 on the laptops to update - or can I?

Norton Utilities 16.0 is this counterfeit on Amazon. UK?

Hello Community,

I would like some help from Symantec Admin about a puzzling copy of Norton Utilities 16.0 on Amazon. UK

Taken directly from the advert as follows

Title description: The boxed disc says

Norton Utilities 16.0 - 1 Computers - 1 Year Subscription (PC)

Description on scrolling down says

Box Contains

1 x Norton Utilities 16.0 - 3 Computers, 1 Year Subscription

Here is a link to the product

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Norton-Utilities-16-0-Subscription-Frustration-Free/dp/B00F5NY8IW/

There are no reviews of the product which makes me suspicious.

They have not replied to my posted question.

I am paranoid about purchasing re-boxed fake or counterfeit goods.

I am worried about purchasing software which might  thave ransom ware such as Cryptolocker or other nasties installed.

How can I tell if a product is genuine Symantec ....before I place the disc into my PC.

I always prefer to purchase a hard copy rather than a site download.

With regards

Castillonia

NU16 will not clear firefox cache when folder is in different drive

$

Hi I was wondering if someone has come across this issue and could provide me with some guidance...

I recently changed my system's boot drive to a SSD for performance reasons.  After doing so I setup my firefox and IE browsers to store cached files on a seprarate conventional magnetic drive to avoid excessive writes and re-writes on my SSD.

When using the brower cache removal funciton in NU16, the tool will succesfully remove the IE cache from my secondary drive, however for Firefox it is still attempting to remove the cache from the original folder that was in the C drive.  NU will not recognise that firefox is storing cached data in an alternate drive.

This results in the FIREFOX privacy scan not being effective at all.  I primarily use firefox over IE so I was curious if anyone has heard of any possible tweaks I can make so that the cache clearing functionality of NU will work properly with firefox.

Summary:

Im using Win7 64 with NU 16.0.1.7

IE cache folder points to D drive

FF cache folder points to D drive

NU16 removes IE cache from D drive

NU16 does not remove FF cache from D drive.

PQI to virtual machine

Hello, we wish to create several virtual machines using some old PQI files, however VMware doesn't support PQI. When looking around I've seen several mentions of people using norton ghost 15 in order to convert PQI to VHD, but Norton ghost is no longer available.

According to several sources Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery should be able to read PQI files and I was hoping I could use that or some similar tool to convert the files but couldn't figure it out on my own.

Any help would be appreciated

Norton DNS Check website no longer works correctly.

Recently Norton changed their DNS servers to connect safe.  I changed to the new IP which is  199.85.126.30 and 199.85.127.30.  I then went to http://setup.nortondns.com/ to see if it was working.  It told me that I failed the dns test.  Yet when I to  expo*****.***.jo to test it I see Norton's Connect Safe block page.  Is there a new page to test whether connect safe is working or do we need to wait for Norton to fix the current one?

After NU15 removal nothing goes into XP recycle bin!

Hello ALL:

I have a strange issue here. I run 32 bit XP and removed NU 15. I have the normal Windows Recycle Bin showing, but nothing seems to be going in it. Do I need to somehow reactivate it now that NU15 is uninstalled?

Identity safe told me that my Norton Account was "temporarily locked due to too many failed log-in attempts.

1) I had not attempted to log in since my last reboot yesterday

2) I followed the "Forgot Password" link and updated my password

Ater the password update I was able to log on to my Norton Account on the web site, but Identity Safe continues to tell me that my Norton Account is locked.

New DNS IP

Hi, I recently set up my router to use the Norton DNS (Connect Safe)

Preferred DNS:199.85.126.10

Alternate DNS:199.85.127.10

When I try to test it on the norton site (http://setup.nortondns.com/) it says "Your computer is not currently using Norton DNS."

I have since changed the DNS to block pornography to see if that works

Preferred DNS:199.85.126.20

Alternate DNS:199.85.127.20

It did block pornographic web sites, but when I go to http://setup.nortondns.com/ It again says "Your computer is not currently using Norton DNS"

I contacted norton about this on live chat, and they used remote desktop to try to resolve it. It was not resolved, and was escalated to level 2. A Norton representive rang me today, and I was not happy with what he had to say. He asked my things like "why do you want to use Norton DNS".

Can some one please test the DNS servers and has anyone else experienced similar issues. I am in Australia (Sydney).

How do I stop NU16 from erasing restore points in windows 7

NU16 Level 2 support: How long is the typical wait time for L2 support through chat?

$

Twice I have had the same problem with NU16 referred up the chain to level 2 support. Twice I have been waiting for a response for more than an hour with no evidence that the molve is even in progress. The last notation on the  remote control window is: transfering session to another technician - remote control session with xxxx has stopped.

How much longer should I wait (at this point in this session I have been waiting for nearly two hours)?

I selected the registry scan for performance.  The results were that there was 1 issue found and the issue was ignored.  Therefore it was not repaired.  The results showed "Number of issues repaired:  0".  Why wasn't this repaired?  Please see attachment.
