new download of Ghost 15... backs up "my computer" but fails to back up "my documents"

Hi there. We're using a brand new HP computer running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I am setting this computer up for my brother and am only around for 18 hours and then I leave town, so immediate assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We downloaded and installed Norton Ghost 15 today.

We are backing up onto a Western Digital external hard drive. Have tried both FAT 32 and NTFS formatting of the external drive.

While we have been succsssful using Norton Ghost to complete "back-up jobs" for "my computer backup" and "drive backup of SYSTEM", the program failed to complete a "my documents backup". When we try to run that, we get the following error message:

Snapshot error %1

Error EBAB03F1: OS error 2147754774

(UMI:V-O-1975-5)

We are mystified why two back-upw work fine, but the third does not.

We have tried this on two different external drives, one completely void of other files, the other with old backups on it, with no success using either external drive.

All help ASAP would be greatly appreciated.

Murray

Norton Utilities 15 Registry Defrag crashed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I have been diligently using Norton Utilities 15 to keep my computers operating efficiently and was quite pleased with the software until this evening.  The registry defragment compacted 80%, which I thought was strange, but didn't real ize what a mess it was creating.  I have been unable to use that computer since.  The BSOD came up, my computer shut down and I'm stuck.  I loaded the Windows 7 Pro disk and have gone as far as looking at the System files Default, Sam, Security, Software and System.  While I don't have the .rmbac file extensions, I do have .rmbak file extensions.  Are they the same?  I've renamed the files with .bad extensions, but I don't know what steps to take next.  Please help!  I have a major project due on Wednesday and I have now lost everything I did today!

I have an HP Pavilion Intel Core 2 Quad 8GB PC with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS.  I can't use MS-DOS command prompts, since I can only access the X: drive.  I'm unable to change the directory to C:\windows, which is not good.  Does this mean I have to reload the OS?  If you know what to do to fix this, please post a solution as soon as you can.

Ghost 15 - Win7 system partition recovery error "Set Active is not supported"

Hi,

I'm practising disaster recovery but When trying to recover Win7 System partition (100MB) to another disk, I get an error "EOBBOO24 Set Active is not supported". I hope someone could help me out here.

Here is some background what I have done. I bought HP Pavilion H8-1150 and realized that Win7 was on 2GB Disk without any separate data partition. It had 3 partitions (system 100BM, Recovery ~13GB, Win7/OS 1,8TB !). It had also another 1TB disk. I decided to buy SSD disk (Samsung 830 series 128GB, which came with Ghost 15). After some difficulties, I managed to copy both System and Win7 partition to my SSD. I had to use Bootit BM to shrink the Win7 partition as it did not work after using Windowns own shrink method. So, now I have working Win7 in SSD with 3 partition (System 100MB, Win7 90GB, Programs 30GB). I'm planning to have my data on that 2GB disk and use 1GB as backup disk (recover Win7 to this in case SDD failure and have bacup data here as well in case failure in 2GB HDD)

So, having had some HDD fault in the past I wanted to practise the Win7 recovery to my 1TB disk in case my SSD disk breaks. I made unallocated partition to my 1TB disk. I backed up my SSD partitions; Win7 and System with Ghost 15 (just in case I did one from windowns and one by booting from Ghost bootable/recovery CD. Here I realized that the System partioon backup/image done in Windows had no Drive letter but somehow the one I made when booting to Ghost CD had drive letter, even if my SSD System partion had no drive letter). Then I took SSD SATA cable out, booted with Ghost 15 CD and tried to do recovery to my 1TB disk (backup files were on 2TB disk). When trying to recover System partition I got error "EOBBOO24 Set Active is not supported".

I have tried to read all the threads out there but don't find quite similar case. I saw this thread

http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/Ghost-15-options-for-recovery/m-p/218202#M21280

and used those options instructed (below)

"

Restore to a new HD if a SRP is present
For the SRP
Verify recovery point before restore
Partition type : Primary
Check for file system errors after recovery
Set drive active (for booting OS)
Restore original disk signature
Restore master boot record

"

I don't need to make my PC dual boot, but there was one thread were people had followed first few steps of this instuction

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee829686

I looks quite complicated and before doing anything to my boot configuration and messing up my PC totally, I would like to get some advice from this forum first.

I start to wonder if the issue is really in my Boot configuration as I have had so many HDD connected to my PC where there has been ACTIVE system partition. I had even my old XP PC's HDD attached (with active boot partition) as I wanted to copy old data from there.

So, I would be greatfull for any advice to get my recovery test successfully finished and be prepared for potential SSD failure.

Thanks in advance,

Miku

p.s. sorry for this long story, but when reading other threads you needed to be very precise to explain the issue.

Norton Ghost 15 Error E1AD5A19

Running Ghost 15 on XP SP3 computer.

Trying to a do one time complete backup to external USB hardrive.

When I use Ghost's Browse function to locate the external HDD and directory for my backup, I get he following error:

The Browse function will not work.

Error E1AD5A19  An unknown error has occured.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
(UM1: V-0-429-23065)

If I create a destination directory using Windows and manually enter this address into Ghost destination address - all OK.

I have tried deleting backup history and reinstalled Ghost 15, but problem remains.

Interestingly I had this problem develop with a Ghost 14 installation on this same PC, so thought a new installation of Ghost 15 would solve my problem.  It originally worked OK with Ghost 14.  Something changed that is screwing up both Ghost 14 and Ghost 15.

Any ideas?

Norton Ghost 15 Migration to new notebook HDD

Hi,

For migration from my notebook’s current HDD to new HDD wit bigger capacity I used the next procedure using Norton Ghost 15: 1) backup my current HDD to an USB HDD; 2) replace the old HDD with the new one; 3) recover from backup to the new HDD by Custom Repair Disk.

This procedure I used successfully many times with different Windows versions.

Recently I need to do such migration from my notebook’s current HDD (Seagate Momentus 500 GB) to new one (Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB). OS is Windows 7 Professional.

All was fine but after migration some services are not started (Search indexing, Windows Update). The SFC utility reports corrupted system files. I have tried to make new backup from original disk and retry recover to the new one. But the result is the same (the same services cannot start under new environment). Windows troubleshooting utilities are not able to fix up corrupted files.

Is there some fix up of that situation?

Thank you,

Milen

Norton Ghost 15 Won't backup Windows 8 Boot Partition

$

Besdides the fun with Ghost 15 not activating after installing Windows 8 Pro as others have reported, Ghost fails when trying to do a system image backup including the Windows 8 boot partition. If I exclude the boot  partion the backup completes normally but I assume I will not be able to restore my system if I have a hard disk crash. Is that correct? Any suggestions?

Here's the error message:

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of System Reserved (*:\), (C:\).
Error EBAB0013: A test that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. CHECK failed,

PS Symantec, you really should be ashamed of yourselves for not testing Ghost 15 with Windows 8 and having a patch available or at least a new release. Do you always treat your customers this way? WOW!

Problem: Running low on memory on c: hard drive. Can't even
defragment. Only 4.5 MB free with 15MB free space within five partitioned drives that I no longer need. I do not want to go through a re install to fix this problem.

System: xp(60mb hardrive)  with 100mb of  250 mb exterenal hard drive available.

Goal: Remove partitioned hard drive space created by Partition Magic and return that memory to C: drive.  I no longer have a need for Partition Magic.

Attempted solution: Used Partition Magic to delete five paritioned hard drives. This was successful but about 15 MB that I expected to go back to the C: drive remains with Partition Magic, listed as "Extended" unused MB.

Norton Utilities vs.. AutoCad 2013

I recently installed Norton Utilities 15 on my lap top.  After NU15 runs a "disk clean"  I have to repair a file on my AC2013 to get it to load.  How do I find the proper file to put it in the ignore list?  It also wipes my Website Notified and other toolbars off of my firefox.  This is a great program, but if I have to repair all of the things I use everyday, it hardly makes it worth it.

I an sellecting Set drive active & Copy MBR, but still nothing. I am attaching the new drive via a USB port, which I understand is supposed to work. Can someone advise? Thanks for your help in advance.

Cannot unhook Goback from MBR or uninstall GoBack

Please help this is my fist post.  I cannot boot to Windows XP Pro.  Norton GoBack has internal damage.  I cannot get past the GoBack splash screen.  I get failure Code gb_genLog(175).  I was able to boot to Cd with gb_prog.exe.  Selected option 1 to unhook GoBack and after 4min failure code gb_genlog(181) appeared.  I ran this Norton fix several times and GoBack was not unhooked.  I am afraid to run Fdisk/MBR or repair Windows XP from installation disk without knowing outcome. I need to save the files on this drive but GoBack will not let me in.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Geneex

WinPE Appears to see folders as files

I have set-up a PXE Boot server to minimize the need for discs to start the Ghosting process, the issue I have ran into involves creating a Samba share on the PXE Server to mimic the actual share on the machine it is shared on.  This all works fine!!  What happens is the Ghost disc boots and will see the networked file path, but when you go to the path it sees the folders as files.  You cannot open the folders to select the correct image, it tells you that the files is the incorrect type.

I have tested the Samba share on the Linux machine and when you access it directly on the machine all folders and files show up properly, it is only an issue when accessing it with the Symantec Boot Disc, and trying to image the machine.

Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to clone HP laptop (Ghost 15 and Vista Home)

Not sure where to begin...but here it goes. I just recently bought a new 256 Samsung 830 and want to use that in my HP laptop. The current drive in the laptop is 320GB (C:/285.79 GB, D:/ 12.29 GB). I've tried to create a system recovery disk from HP via the Vista Home Premium OS, but failed on burning the disks so I ordered some from HP. Those don't work at installing either as it just hangs and after 8 hours spits out an error message (don't remember exactly what it was). Next up was the USB flash drive approach, which was a total bust so it brought me here. I can install a fresh copy of Vista, but lose all the drivers, applications and personalization that I've accumulated over the past 3-4 years

I've tried to do the disk to disk copy and didn't work (multiple errors) so I guess my only option is to do the image/restore. I've been scouring these forums and found this article which I've tried to do a few times and no avail.

http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/using-norton-ghost-15-to-restore-to-a-new-hard-drive/td-p/510308/page/7

I'm hoping some of the guys that helped out that gentleman can do the same for me. The ultimate goal is to clone both the C and D partitions to the new SSD so that it looks like nothing has changed. I've taken a screenshot of what the current drive config looks like on the laptop. Hoping you guys can help me out!

Thanks in advance

BOOTMGR is missing on my SSD

Hi

Ive used Ghost to copy from my new laptops HDD running win764  (C:) to a new installed SSD (F:) . I followed the instructions and selected 'set drive active' and 'copy mbr'.

But, when I select the drive in the BIOS to boot the SSD, I get BOOTMGR is missing. Does the drive letter need to be changed in Disk Managment?

Thanks

Cloning SSD on Dell Latitude E6420 with Ghost 15

From reading other posts on this forum, I gather that there is a particular order of steps to take in order to properly clone a boot drive with Ghost 15.  Having tried it before reading this forum and having failed in booting the cloned machine, I'm now looking for what the order of operations is to do this succesfully

Here is the picture of Disk Management on the existing drive.

Disk Management.png

The machine that will be the clone will obviously have a similar partition structure.

My order of operations would be to save the copy to an external USB drive which is larger than the source drive, then perform the restore to the target machine booting from the Ghost CD with the external USB drive as the source.

Any guidance you can offer is greatly appreciated.
