Can't Install Norton Utilities 16 under Windows 8
Just purchased NU16 to run under Windows 8, but can't get it to install. When the installation file starts to run, it usually locks up Windows and nothing happens. Managed once to get as far as displaying the Terms and Conditions acceptance box, but nothing happened after I accepted, except it locked up Windows. I've tried everything I can find in Norton Support and Live Chat (I was put in a queue and gave up after waiting a while). Already running Norton 360, but I'm tired of messing with NU16, frustrated with Norton, ready to request a refund for NU16, and change to another vendor for security and utilities services. Any last minute advice before I do that?
Norton Parent sign on.. not working since saturday
Ghost 15 failing to copy my old drive to new drive- many times!
Hi all,
The SMART utility on my hard drive has informed me it is about to fail! (I have checked it with seatools for windows and its confirmed-also scanned for malware).
I have purchased a new hard drive and installed it and then purchased a copy of Norton ghost 15 to copy my operating system to the new drive.
So far it has failed 4 times and I am not sure what to do next!
The first error was-
Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of (C:\) drive. Error EC8F0409: Cannot copy source drive to destination location. Error EA3905FE: Cluster not allocated. (UMI:V-281-3215-6067)
Details: Source: Norton Ghost
This failed twice, then it seemed to work, when I ticked the ignore bad sectors, two hours later, after 99% copied, it failed again with this error message-
Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of (C:\) drive. Error EC8F0409: Cannot copy source drive to destination location. Error EA39060B: Wrong run limits. (UMI:V-281-3215-6067)
Details: Source: Norton Ghost
Then I tried again, but it failed in the same way :(
Very disheartened, is it game over? Should I just reinstall the lot?
My drives are sata 2 and my operating system is Vista 64 home.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Norton Utilities 16 Defrag: Remove Windows Restore Points? Also Disk clean issue!
Just installed NU16 this morning via Norton offer. Have AMD Phenom II X6 Core 1055T 2.80GHz Gateway DX 4350 System with 8.00 GB RAM runnning Windows 7 64-bit with Norton Internet Security 20.2.0.19 with Norton Utilities 15 (previously).
While optimizing, ran across message in either Quick or Deep Defrag that Windows Restore points will be removed which may impact other Windows programs. Is there any way to avoid NU16's removing restore points? Have tried different settings, but to no avail. Now even fear reinstating automatic Smart Defrag in case I return to find all Windows restore points gone. Would rather not have NU16 remove restore points than attempting to restore them from backups! Any suggestions for a fix or appropriate settings?
Also, while in NU16 Dashboard, am advised to continue optimizing, first bleaching disk space. Any attempt, regardless of which drive of four is selected and which selections are checked, only C: main drive is "bleached" only to return to original Dashboard disregard for any bleaching having occurred.
Thanks for any help and I hope y'all aren't having same issues with NU16 installations.
Costco NIS2012 with Norton Utilities Bonus Disk cannot activate NU16
I bought the special 3 user Norton Internet Security 2012 from costco with the Norton Utilities Bonus Disk. When installing Norton Utilities, I got a message that a new version was available, and downloaded and installed it. Currently running as a trial, but the activation code on the card does not work.
rikvm_C6F09094.sys is not a virus
Greetings,
Norton Power Eraser 3.1.1.10 identifies the following file as a virus:
C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\rikvm_C6F09094.sys
However, CyberLink says that this is a legitimate PowerDVD 10 file. I also have Norton AntiVirus 19.9.0.9 installed, but NAV doesn't say rikvm_C6F09094.sys is a virus. I don't know why there is a discrepancy between NAV and NPE.
Shane.
Will be ever Custom policies in Norton ConnectSafe (DNS) be available again ?

Simple instructions how to clone HDD to a larger one with Norton Ghost 15
Dear Experts,
I know that the answer to my questions lies in several posts in this bullet board, but I must say that being "an average" engineer, I have got lost with all kind of details. So many options to choose and the user's manual is focusing on the tower PCs rather than the typical case where you have a laptop with USB cradle.
I would appreciate if someone could provide "instructions for dummies" how to the following:
1) Laptop with internal small 2.5 inch HDD 250GB running on Windows Vista
2) An USB cradle to which I can put my new and larger HDD (500GB) that will fit into the computer's HDD slot
3) Norton Ghost 15 installed on the computer
4) The internal HDD is divided into three partitions C, D and E where the OS is on the C partition, and on D and E I believe are/have been used for recovery purposes/fall back due to BIOS updates
-> I this context - how to clone a bootable HDD that can be replaced "with a screw driver" without unnecessary trics.
So may I ask what are the neeed steps to clone the content of the internal (the one I would like replace) to a new (destination) drive on the USB cradle in a way that when I assemble the new drive into the laptop and the Vista would boot up as before?
a) What options I should use to copy the drive in the Norton Ghost 15?
b) What is the recommend sequence to clone the partitions?
c) By doing as instructed - do I need to worry about the drive names (C:/ D:/ and E:/) or are the drive names copied along the process?
d) Any special guidance I should follow?
Rgrds, Henrik
Norton Ghost 15 clone drive with dual boot XP and Norton Ghost 2003 on it.
I followed the unallocated instructions provided by Symantec to clone a drive and I can get the copied drive to boot to either XP or to the other, depending on which partition in windows I set to be the active primary partition. So if I set the Local [Drive Letter:\] to be the active primary partition, and take it out and put it in it's PC, it boots fine as default into Windows XP. However if I choose to boot to the Ghost Recovery Partition (Option 2) it will just sit there with a blank screen and flashing curser.
Now, if I set the Ghost partition to the active primary partion and take it out and put it in it's PC, it boots straight to the Ghost Recovery Console straight away.
I don't know how the heck I can set the active primary as the local drive with Windows XP on it, and have the dual boot function for the Norton Ghost 2003 Ghost Recovery console to come up if I select it.
There's a connection missing, but the original drive (the source drive) has the local partition with Windows XP on it as active primary, and I cloned both partitions. So I don't know why the copied hard drive doesn't boot like the source hard drive if it's a copy.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
My legitimate copy of Ghost 15 "ran out" of its trial period
It is interesting, today my legitimate copy of Ghost 15 "ran out" of its imposed trial period. I ran the uninstall and a registry cleaner (which took out lots of left over crap) and installed the program again. It told me I had "0" days left but still wouldn't accept my legitimate or numerous pirated serial numbers. Again it is interesting that Symantic can hid a expirery date somewhere in the registery etc. but has limited the program to not accept a lisence number. Smells of a corrupt company and maybe it is time to look elsewhere.
Oh yes the program ran fine - backup and restore - before it ended the trial period.
Once when I first contacted Symantic support they said that there would b an update to fix the problem - not here yet.
Who can recommend a simular backup program from a repituable supplier?
Norton PC Checkup
I Bought a new Toshiba Laptop to test Windows functionality in internet explorer 7,8,9 for a website (i usually use mac). Norton PC Checkup keeps blasting me to purchase the product with "Get Protected Now". I am reluctant to purchase this product because generally I like the fastest internet possible and all these products seem to slow everything down. I don't click on or download from dubious sites. Is it worth the purchase? If not, how do I get rid of the popup?
Thanks!

Norton Utilities 15.0.0.124
Is Norton Utilities 15 compatible with Windows 8 Pro?
Ghost 15 thinks wrong external drive is plugged in
I use two external drives for backups Ghost knows about each. But about one in four times when I plug in a drive and then launch Ghost to make the backup, Ghost reports that the other drive is plugged in and I thus can't make a backup. Windows 7 (my OS) however always correctly reports which drive is plugged in. So it's like Ghost doesn't bother to ask the OS about the drive identify but instead relies on something else, which isn't always correct.
Unplugging the drive and plugging it back in doesn't help. Killing and relaunching the Ghost processes doesn't seem to help either. The only solution I have so far is to reboot the computer. Right after that, Ghost does identify the external drive correctly and I can proceed to make my backup. But after maybe four backups, switching drives each time, Ghost then gets it wrong again.
My apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere - I couldn't find it.
Error EC8F17B7 and Error EBAB03F1???
I just got the following error for the first time. I use Ghost 14 on an WinXP Pro system with Intel Quad Core.
Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of Main Drive (C:\) (2). Error E7D1001E: Unable to read from file. Error EBAB03F1: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

As a result the scheduled image backup did not run.
Any ideas?
Norton Ghost - Copy Drive to SSD
Using Norton Ghost 15.0 on Windows 7, I am in the process of copying the hard drive on my Laptop to a new Samsung SSD. I have the SSD connected using the provided USB to SATA connection. When I use the Copy Drive Wizard the SSD (Destination Drive) does not appear. I therefore can't perform the Copy Drive fuction. How do I perform this Copy Drive function? There has to be a way. Norton Ghost is provided with the Samsung Drive to perform the data migration.
