e7d1001e error when recovering laptop hard drive to new larger drive

Hi everyone.

Here's the story: I have been trying to upgrade my current laptop hard drive (320GB) to a new (500GB) drive. I made a cold backup of the current drive to a 2TB USB powered hard drive. I have replaced the current 320GB hard drive with the new 500GB in the laptop, booted with the recovery disc and attempted to recover the backup image, to the new drive. I have selected these options:

Set as primary partition

set drive active

restore original disk signature

restore MRB

I too have ensured as recommended on other posts (http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/using-norton-ghost-15-to-restore-to-a-new-hard-drive/td-p/510308/page/5) to 'delete' any partitions so the target partition reads 'unallocated space'.

Anyway, I start the recovery of the image (~270GB) and it goes to ~99% and returns the error:

E7D1001E: unable to read file

00000002 - system cannot fine the file specified

My USB hard drive at this time is off, so I assume something is un-mounting my drive before completion.

I have also noticed that two other small partitions exist for the drive I am attempting to recover to. Do they need combining and deleting to unallocated space?

Anyway, long story short, does anyone have any ideas regarding this error. Are my settings correct?

My plan, if I cannot resolve this issue, is to:

removal all user data from current 320GB hard drive to external hard drive and make new, smaller OS recovery image. Then make two partitions on target drive, one formatted and containing the recovery image and the second unallocated to recover to. I will resize the partitions afterwards if successful. (The DISKPART method i believe it is called)

I would be grateful if anyone could recommended anything or check that my progress and current plans are viable

thank you

M

Hi, we are seeing the site www.rafclub.org.uk / rafclub.org.uk blocked under Norton ConnectSafe for Business Policy 3 as Alcohol.  This site relates to an organisation with accomodation and conferencing facilities rather than just a bar.  Could this be re-categorised accordingly?

Win 8 Images from Ghost 15

I have Ghost 15 on order and see here there's major problems with it and Windows 8. I've been using Ghost 8 for a long time from a different bootable partition on my multi-boot system.

Does Ghost 15 have a file i can run like I do with Ghost 8 ghost32.exe from a different partition?

Can I load up an XP partition then create an image of my Windows 8 partition?

Does it work similar to my Ghost 8?

Thanks

Reliability experience Norton Ghost 15?

Hello,

I have spent the last 3 days researching and trying various software packages for backing up my entire Windows 7 drive.  What I noticed is that NG is faster than all the other products I tried.  Where others take 2 hours or more, NG takes about an hour.  Makes me wonder if I'm missing something in setting up NG.

NG 15 is the oldest software of all the ones I tried.  Should that be a concern?

I want to make sure that I have a reliable product since I plan on using NG on 6 office computers.

Would appreciate any feedback in helping me make the right choice.

Thanks!

I had to use the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool as part of the process to solve Error Problems 3039, 65559 for Norton 360.  The Norton Support page stated that using the tool “uninstalls all Norton products from your computer, and reinstalls the latest version of your Norton security product. If you have any other utility products like Norton System Works, Norton Ghost, pcAnywhere, or Norton Utilities, you have to reinstall them manually.”

Attempting manually to re-install Norton Ghost 15 after re-installation of Norton 360, I downloaded and ran the installation file for Ghost 15. Everything seems to work fine right up until the last moment, then it gets the following error, rolls back and aborts:

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {63E949F6-03BC-5C40-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}. HRESULT: 0x800736FD.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Any suggestions?

Ghost vs. Reflect

I received a copy of Ghost 15 with my purchase of a Samsung 830 SSD drive.

I have a DELL laptop with the traditional:

OEM Diagnostics partition

RECOVERY partition

OS PARTITION

I could not get Ghost to work.  I finally gave in and downloaded Macrium Reflect, and it did the whole job with 1-click and no problems.

is there a way I can get Ghost to work like this?  If not, why can Reflect do it and Ghost cannot?

I have a few of the SSDs to roll out and I'd like to use Ghost.

Need Advice for a Standy/Backup PC

$

I have a very unlucky father.  About every 18 months, for some reason, he experiences some kind of hardware failure with his computer.  I am then called upon to help him fix and restore it from backup, costing both him and me several days before he is back to normal again.  He and I have finally decided that we should obtain a hardware clone of his current PC and maintain a software clone using some utility like Norton Ghost.  Although I am fairly tech savy, I must admit that I am not familiar with all of the features and uses of Ghost, and whether or not it is ideal for this purpose.  So I seek the advice of this forum.

What I want to do is maintain two identical computers on my fathers desk - one primary and one standby.  The computers will be networked together on the same subnet and will be connected to a single monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers using a KVM switch.  During normal operation, my dad will work off of the primary computer, and the standby computer can remain turned off.  Every couple of days or so, he will turn on the standy PC and perform some automated process that will clone his primary PC's hard drive and restore it on the standy.  Then he will shut off the standy computer until it is needed.

If the primary PC's hardware fails again, my dad can simply switch over and use the standby computer as if nothing happened, and then alert me so that I can repair his primary computer at my leisure, instead of the frantic rush I normally face.  Can Norton Ghost be setup to perform this process easily?  If not, is there other software that can be used for my purposes?  Perhaps there is a better process I can consider?  I await all constructive advice.

I can't activate my Norton Utilites

Hello,

I sent 3 emails to support team but did not get any answer from they. Probably somebody can help me on the forum.

I bought a license to Norton 360 and Norton Utilites and installed both on my machine (Windows 7)

Then I did a clean install of Windows 8 at the same machine and installed Norton 360 and Norton Utilites (I activated both successfuly)

But, Norton Utilites refuse me in activation, I got a message (I double checked then information I enter is correct)

Product activation was unsuccessful. Please verify that
your activation code and email address is entered
correctly, and that you are connected to the Internet

Also in my Norton account i see than Norton 360 did not released license from my previous installation, so right now I have it installed on 2 machines, but it shows me than I used 3 licenses.

How can I deal with it? is it any way to reset licenses? I can't find such option in my account and support did not responde to me.

Thanks,

Alex.

I added more RAM to my laptop (now have 4GB) but NU (15.0.0.124) still lists the old level (2GB). Why didn't NU recognize the added RAM? What can be done to fix? The Windows System (Vista) info however does list the correct RAM and Virtual Memory.

Norton Ghost 15 - Installation Problem - Failed to have success running InstallDriver function

$

Had endless trouble with this but eventually spotted a reference for Backup Exec (a similar product) associating this error with lack of permissions for cmd.exe. In fact my permissions were correct but I had changed comspec to tcc.exe, a better command processor. Permissions for tcc.exe were already fairly full and adding TrustedInstaller made no difference, but just putting comspec back to C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe fixed the problem - a smooth upgrade from NG14 to NG15 followed.

Hope that helps someone!

According to the User Guide, to update Norton Ghost you click on LiveUpdate from the Help menu.  My version of Norton Ghost (15.01.136526) does not have a LiveUpdate option on the Help menu.

I'm wondering how to get updates to my Norton Ghost.

Ghost 15. Windows XPsp3
1. Downloaded and installed Ghost 15
2. Downloaded Symantec Recovery CD iso file (NBRT_Retail.iso)
3. Burned iso file to CD using Gear ISO Burn. The CD booted properly to the recovery environment.
4. Attempted to create a custom recovery disk CD using the Ghost Tools function. The CD created in step 3 was selected as
the source. Received error ECA303EE "The specified path for the source Symantec Recovery Disk does not contain a valid folder and fileset."
5. Found a Symantec post containing several recommendations, none of which solved the problem

Would anyone be kind enough to provide an explanation and solution to the problem?
Thank you,

Ghost 15 & Images

$

Hello,

I installed Ghost 15 on my XP partition so I could create image files like I've been doing since Ghost 8. The ghost install trashed my system upon reboot and I had to do a reload from one of my Ghost 8 images. After that I decided to install Ghost 15 on my test partition and didn't activate it. It tells me I have a 30 day trial but it doesn't seem to let me do anything.

I don't see any option to create a disk/drive/partition image. All I want to do is create an image like I've been doing with Ghost 8 forever and I don't want to have to boot off the CD to do it. I don't need all the restore points, scheduling and the rest. I don't even see the word image in their help files.

In addition, the UI doesn't see my Windows 8 partition while it shows up in explorer & computer management. It seems Ghost 15 doesn't show a list of drives & partitions like v8 did.

How do I run Ghost 15 to create a drive/partition image?

Why doesn't it see the Windows 8 partition? (remember I'm running G15 in XP)

If I activate it on my test partition, then remove it and install it on my main XP partition, will I have activate problems?

Thanks
